@_tessr @csuwildcat "identity" is a pretty broad category. lots of people in web3 just mean "account history" or "proof of control of a twitter account 1 year old" by id, in which case, sure, that's fine for NFTs. but if you mean "creditworthiness" or "citizenship" or "debt obligation", just nah.

@_tessr @csuwildcat sidenote nfts are a pretty broad category too-- if you mean a very specific variant on NFTs, maybe, but vanilla ERC721 are a terrible fit for any form of "id" that needs ANY privacy, periodt. wired.com/story/nfts-privacy-security-nightmare/

@_tessr @csuwildcat when you get into, oh idunno, IRL identity concepts like copyright, trademark, doxxing, irl privacy, celebrity, etc, NFTs start to look more and more incompatible with what lawyers mean by "identity", much less what philosophers and humanists mean by it: wired.com/story/blockchain-copyright-portrait-piracy/

@_tessr @csuwildcat projects I worked on during my time at Spruce are obviously worth considering deeply in the "VC alternatives to NFT identity" camp alongside my current work on verite.id. soulbound/ntnft work like @Sismo_eth and @kycdao also complicate the landscape because NFTs

@_tessr @csuwildcat @Sismo_eth @kycdao don't need to be tradeable and transferrible, it's just a function you can disable when you deploy an otherwise conformant ERC721. but then if you're stretching the definitions of both "identity" and "NFT", is that even on-topic?

@_tessr @csuwildcat @Sismo_eth @kycdao anyways, DMs open, I'm glad to help anyone at Twitter or BlueSky that wants help doing actual grown-up research on any of this or introductions to experts.
