        @csuwildcat The main difference is just how contagious it is for how long before symptoms appear. If our health system had the capacity to treat the tsunami of cases that would result from an exponential spread, it might not even be worth intervening.

      @csuwildcat Lots of climate and cultural factors play a part as well-- most Italians live in multi-generations housing arrangements, while 40% of Swedes live alone. Sweden also has twice the hospital bed capacity, and flu outbreaks are often super lethal in italy. thelocal.se/20180412/why-do-so-many-swedes-live-alone

    @csuwildcat I'm not sure the press, or laypersons in general, will ever be comfortable discussing such matters in actuary terms, but epidemiologists aren't so black-and-white about this stuff-- there's tradeoffs, and lockdowns really aren't an absolute good or a generalized imperative at all
