    @JGrahamC whatsapp won so much market by tie-ins with cel providers in the third world-- in latin america, whatsapp bandwidth doesn't could towards the data you're billed for on most cheap plans and pay-as-you-gos. lots of existing alternatives exist but it's a marketshare/scale arms race

      @JGrahamC (sorry if that's coals to newcastle talking to cloudflare's CTO, but i was more answering all the responders on-thread). i genuinely think a PR/hearts-and-minds campaign could swing the market-share arms race in favor of open-source/ethical alternatives to "VC tech"
